The Ford Tourneo Connect was launched in March 2003 as a replacement of Ford Courier and Ford Escort. In its second generation it is based on Ford Transit Connect Formula, a van with rear seats and widows with sliding doors and lots of space for load.
With some refinements now we have a practical MPV that is less boxy than its predecessor. Its practical and improved shape gives a good ride. It is also used as a people carrier with five or seven-seat models.
The Citroen Berlingo Multispace, Fiat Doblo and Peugeot Partner Tepee are the competitors of the Ford Tourneo Connect. Equipment is good, efficient and responsive.
In the presence of efficient diesel engines, clients don’t give any thoughts to petrol engines, though they are also good in performance. Connect is a big MPV and diesel engines do their best for large vehicles especially for loading and carrier vehicles.
There is a 1.5 liter TDCi diesel engine with 98bhp and 184lb/ft torque. It is capable to take the vehicle from 0-62m/h in 12.9 seconds with maximum speed of 102m/h, reasonable figure for such a large and high roof style MPV.
This diesel engine is efficient in performance under the load of Ford Tourneo Connect and gives 59m/g of fuel average with 124g/km of CO2 emissions. With five-speed manual gearbox it is a front-wheel drive engine with 750kg of towing ability and 1287litres luggage capacity.
The 120bhp 1.5 litre TDCi diesel engine gives more power and speed to the van. It produces 200lb/ft of torque which is helpful in pulling the loaded vehicle. It takes 12.1 seconds to get0-62m/h with top speed of 107m/h.
It’s a fuel-efficient version with 61m/g of fuel average with less 119g/km CO2 emissions. It is equipped with six-speed manual and front-wheel drive unit with same luggage capacity.
There is a 1.6 liter TDCi diesel engine with less power of 93bhp and 170lb/ft torque. Though it is not as powerful as required for an MPV, but it is not a bad option with 56m/g of fuel average with 130g/km of CO2 emissions. It is capable to get 0-62m/h in 14.6 seconds with top speed of 100m/h and is available in five-speed manual transmission and 1287litres luggage capacity.
The other version in 1.6 litre TDCi diesel engine is of 115bhp and 200lb/ft torque, which gives 103m/h top speed with 13.6 seconds to get0-62m/h sprint. Its fuel economy of 56m/g is also good. It emits 131g/km of CO2. This version has 1529litres luggage capacity.
There is also an efficient 1.8-litre diesel engine in the range.
There are two petrol engines available, 1.0 liter EcoBoost petrol engine and 1.6litre EcoBoost with 148bhp.
The 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine is a small unit under such a heavy vehicle like Ford Connect and always works hard to carry the weight of the vehicle. The performance goes to worst under loaded vehicle. This version is not a good option to use.
The 1.6 litre EcoBoost is a powerful petrol engine with 148bhp and 177lb/ft torque. It takes 10.6 seconds to get 0-62m/h with top speed of 110m/h, being a petrol engine it doesn’t offer a good fuel average of 36m/g with massive amount 184g/km of CO2 emissions. It is equipped with six-speed automatic gear system. Its luggage capacity is 1529 liters.
