Mercedes-Benz to Unveil 12 New Models By 2020

As a part of their growth strategy, Mercedes-Benz is working on new models to maintain its lead in the class-segment

 

Mercedes-Benz is gearing up for a massive growth strategy where the officials unveil that they will launch twelve new models by 2020 and all of these new models will have no direct predecessors or rivals. It is an intensive new model development program in the history of Mercedes-Benz. Speaking to an opening ceremony of new R&D site, Thomas Weber, head of research and development at Mercedes-Benz said that they have planned twelve new models by 2020. Every model will be entirely new and have no direct predecessor.

“Moving forward our plans include the most intensive development cycle Mercedes-Benz has ever undertaken,” Weber said. “It is additional to our regular development activities for the replacement of existing models and will significantly strengthen our position within the market”.

This announcement has come just after the confirmation of adding ten plug-in Hybrid version in the Mercedes model line-up which signifies how keen Mercedes-Benz is for a massive new model development strategy to dominate the world in future. It is the part of the technological push from the EU to reduce the overall emissions which will come into effect in 2020.

There are also some reports regarding the alterations in the nameplates of existing models such as GLK to adopt M-Class and GL to New GLC, GLE and GLS.

Mercedes has not disclosed the names of new models that are under development right now. Some models are possibly to enter the production soon. CLA Shooting brakes, C-Class Cabriolet, GLC Coupe are set to go into production soon, however the S-Class Maybach, Mercedes-Benz luxury division product, is making its first public appearance at LA Motor Show 2014.
