To many markets, Toyota Land Cruiser with standard wheelbase is known as the Prado. This is to a way to distinguish it from its larger sibling, the Land Cruiser 200. Toyota has recently introduced a new 6 speed automatic gearbox and a new turbo diesel engine in Prado.
This new Toyota Land Cruiser engine is a 2.8-litre D-4D four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, packing 174 ponies and producing 332 lb-ft of torque. Toyota has offered this frugal engine in both body styles, 3-door and 5-door, and it can be mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a new six-speed Super ECT automatic gearbox.
When the Land Cruiser is equipped with the manual gearbox, it takes 12.1 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph, but the automatic takes 12.7 seconds for the same acceleration, and both of them reach a top speed of 109 mph.
When we compare it to the previously used 3.0-litre diesel engine, the average fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced to 7.4 l/100 km (38.2 mpg) and 194 g/km.
These figures are for the 5-door body style, the 3-door model averages 7.2 l/100 km and 190 g/km. Fuel economy and CO2 emissions are same in the manual version.
According to the automaker, this new diesel engine features urea Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, Toyota’s first ever, that is capable of eliminating NOx emissions up to 99 percent.
In the Europe, the face lifted Land Cruiser will be offered with a 4.0 VVT-I V8 petrol engine with 5-door body style. When backed with six-speed Super ECT automatic gearbox, this unit will produce 278 bhp and 284 lb-ft of torque.
Thanks to this unit, sprint from 0-62 mph will take only 10.9 seconds and the top speed will be 109 mph. Combined fuel economy is 26.6 mpg and CO2 emissions are 248 g/km.
