July was a special month for Miramas testing facility in France, where BMW tested their eco-friendly mobility vehicle and show it to the public. They brought out some other interesting concepts including this BMW 225XE Active Tourer Plug-in Hybrid.
They also introduced the interesting hydrogen powered i8, but most of these models were actually brand new concepts and was shown for the first time by BMW.
The all new BMW 2-series Active Tourer plug-in hybrid as the production version is called 225XE and has an output of 225i alike. That means that new model will multiply the horsepower figures of the horses of an internal combustion engine with those coming from the electric motor in the back. These will be about 225 horses, yes! Think short but bit closer to the 225i.
The driveline is very similar to the one offered on the i8 models. The electric system is mated to a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged BMW engine leading the system from the front. It is capable of producing 136hp with the pulling power of 162lb-ft of torque.
Let’s turn the vehicle back and talk about the rear axle where the electric system rules. An electric motor of around 88hp and 122 lb-ft of pulling power of torque.
It’s the same electric system used in the 330e plug-in hybrid where it delivers 224hp collectively and up to 258 lb-ft of torque. These figures allow the vehicle to reach up to 25 miles on an all-electric mode, however, a driver can get even more if he remains in the limits of 75 miles per hour.
The most optimistic testing cycle shows the fuel economy of this new plug-in hybrid, in imperial units it delivers 134 to 141 miles per gallon while CO2 emissions are stated as low as 49 to 46 g/km. Unfortunately, this model will not be available for the US customers.
