Mercedes-Benz has introduced a rival for the likes of the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Jaguar XF and Volvo S90. The new E-Class will receive long nonet, larger wheels and an all-new design.
In the first step the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Saloon has been revealed which will then be followed by a sleek cabriolet and coupe later on. And by the end of 2016, an estate version will also go on sale.
And for the speed lovers who want to have really beastie vehicles, the E63 Mercedes-AMG will arrive by the end of next year.
A new generation of four-cylinder diesel engines will be powering the new E-Class. A range of upgraded four-cylinder petrol engines will also be available with the diesel ones. The year 2016 will bring with it a new range of 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engines and a three-cylinder petrol option.
A plug-in-hybrid model, dubbed E350e will use a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated with an electric motor, offering driving range of 20 miles when electric only. The E63 AMG high performance model will use an upgraded version of Mercedes 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine which will produce around 600bhp.
There are three different specifications offered in new E-Class, dubbed Avantgarde, AMG Line and Exclusive. A brand new widescreen digital instrument cluster display with two 12.3-inch screens will be going to the AMG Line and Exclusive models.
The driver can configure both of these screens and they offer a choice between three different driving themes – Classic, Sport and Progressive – where the graphics of the display will change according to the theme selected.
The entry-level Avangarde models get an 8.4-inch central infotainment screen and traditional dials with a colour display. What is new here is the adoption of a wireless charging mat in the centre console, a USB connector for Android Auto functionality and Apple CarPlay. Under the centre armrest, an SD card slot and two USB connections can be found.
The expected price will be more than £34,870 as it is the price of current car, but the real pricing will be revealed when E-Class will be unveiled in Detroit.
