A teaser video has unveiled the eighth generation of Toyota Hilux and the video is now available at Toyota’s Thailand channel.
Two new engines were revealed to replace the KD engines family with the GD generation. The KD engine family has been in action since 2005. Later this year, new diesel engines will become available on the SW4 SUV andHiAce. SW4 is a Hilux based SUV and theHiAce is aseven seater passenger van.HiAce is also known as the Innova in several Toyota Markets.
New diesel engines family is called the Toyota GD engines. It offers direct injection common rail fuel delivery for vital performance. There is a turbocharger and an intercooler which will help the engine to deliver smooth power.
Economy with Superior Thermal Efficient Combustion (ESTEC) is offered for the first time in the GD engines. It will reduce the overall fuel consumption of the power unit while offering an improved acceleration.
The smallest GD engine is a 2GD 2.4 with a displacement of 2,395cc or 2.4-litre. It is capable of cranking out 160 horsepower and a torque of 295 lb-ft. This engine will be offered with a five-speed manual gearbox. It is a replacement to KD-FTV 2.5 litre Toyota Hilux engine.
Next in the row for power units, there is a 1GD 2.8 engine. It has a displacement of 2795cc or 2.8-litre, cranks out 177 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. It will be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox as a replacement to 1KD-FTV 3.0-litre engine.
In the designing department, new Hilux will get some cosmetic treatment, it will get LED accents, strong fenders, new alloy wheels and chrome door handles with chromed mirror caps. The 2016 Hilux is not an all-new model but an update.
